My Educational Influences assignment brought me back 16-28 years ago, as I mainly considered my K-12. Sure, my university days taught me plenty enough, and I grew as a person with enhanced life skills during that period, but I took this assignment as an opportunity to see what key memories – both good and bad – endured over time. I took this approach to hone in on what could make me a great teacher and would would…not. I recalled teachers who taught character and the importance of becoming good citizens, and teachers who would assign dictionary pages to retain control. I had enlightened teachers who preached inclusion and respect, and knucklehead teachers who’d make poorly considered jokes. In short, this was one of those sneaky activities that you’re not sure what you’ll take away, until it smacks you in the face with understanding.
