Perhaps a copout using this picture, but I will always stand behind it being the perfect fit. Over my many years in Kamloops, one recurring feature to my volunteer work is feed people. This includes many, MANY, Pit Stops and Family Dinners which are each unique programs that involve preparing warm meals in industrial kitchens that serve those in the city that don’t have access to proper meals. The Pit Stop caters to individuals while Family Dinners feed Norkam Secondary families.
Now that I have taken time off work, and going into the summer of 2024, my life revolves around the varying communities my children have formed – school and several spring field trips, dance class and the corresponding parent groups, ball hockey, softball, with camping and some golf hopefully right around the corner – there’s no downtime it seems as I float in many different circles! Hopefully, that might change this summer as I pick up my word working hobby again and can spend time integrating learning new skills with my family.
Being the Treasurer, and volunteering Executive member of the North Shore’s Business Improvement Association was one of many helpful transitions from being a banker in the business world to a future teacher. If one’s familiar with the North Shore, one would appreciate that most of our efforts were finding balance between improving the many social issues, what some dismiss as simply crime, and appeasing the (at times) less sympathetic business owners and landlords.
With a four ands six year old at home, and ball hockey player myself with virtually no spare time to spare, why not put my hand up to help coach as well? Because it’s that much experience I can grasp to enhance my future teacher strengths! Yes, it would be ideal if my daughters were on the team I’m coaching, but unfortunately the stars aren’t aligning this year, but that’s alright, that time will come.
