Learning to measure with non-standard units, such as oranges!

Unfortunately, my multimedia hasn’t quite hit the 2020’s yet, but I do make a valiant effort to bring my lessons to life. I took the cliche introductory non-standard measurement lesson to life through colour and real, practical, connection by creating the above product (a major part of valuable assessment!) measuring foot length in oranges.

Videos are the mainstay in education, but why rely on youtube and others with sort of matching content? Make your own, and you’ll not only deliver your message spot on, but you’ll have fun doing it to!

What more can I say, besides literally showing your presentation or pitch for approval or funding a class trip is best expressed through a multimedia format like the above clip presents! You could describe the benefits of teaching with Place Based Learning, listing the benefits, but a quick clip evidencing the value speaks volumes!

Now, I would understand confusion around why I choose a snippet of a lesson plan, but I personally feel it is an appropriate way to express the pride I take in my work. I believe anything being prepared for any audience demands effort and an intent to please the end reader. As a teacher I won’t have students complete lesson plans, but rather extend this principle to their work and the endless multimedia presentations they’ll prepare in their future – clean polished work is not only for others but for one’s own satisfaction.
